Why is nitrogen gas very unreactive?

In nitrogen bound it has a triple bond between two nitrogen atom. This triple bond is constituted of one sigma and two pi bonds. the intermolecular forces in there are weak so diatomic molecules exist freely. nitrogen gas is apparently inactive under normal conditions
