What is your opinion of how families deal with people getting older and family structure?

Omg let me say I read the giver in class as a class novel. The people in the community didn't have feelings so they couldn't feel anything. They were just going with the flow because they had no choice. The Elders would get released and they wouldn't care. Your family wasn't your real family in the giver because the birth mom's did all the work. So you were actually related to the birth mom. Like I said they really didn't care as you got older.
