During the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam in the early 1940s, the jewish were tortured briefly by their mechanisms of expression being revoked, such as schools or places of worship.

Jewish schools and places of worship were closed. Jewish businesses were shut down and much money was taken. Jews were forced to wear the Star of David on their clothing.

They also weren't allowed to use trains and buses. None of the Jews were allowed to remain outside their homes after 8 pm. They could not move out of their homes with a suitcase.
