The myth did not have the kiss whereas the sculpture shows Cupid and Psyche kissing.

    Explanation:

In the original myth, Psyche was awoken by Cupid with him removing the sleep from her face and let go to her mother. But in the sculpture by Antonio Canova, it shows Cupid and Psyche in a kiss, an archetype of True Love's Kiss. Though the myth simply shows the act of Cupid wiping the sleep out of Psyche, the sculpture presents an actual act of kissing which is a detour from the actual myth of which it is based. Th artist Canova may have based his work from the myth, but with some alterations from the original story.
