The Crucible's Act 3 starts with the Judge Hathorne and Martha's meeting about the allegations and preceding with what they have understood that Proctor is trying to save his wife from being executed.

Explanation:

In this act, we see that Judge Hathorne is now concerned about what makes a Proctor bring Mary to the court today because she was the only person who wasn't involved in the case as of date.

Proctor claims to bring Mary to the court to explain that Elizabeth, his wife, to be innocent and that he can prove it anywhere. Danforth, starts his prosecution and asks Proctor to explain about his ideology over respecting women, being religious and maintaining a social standard in his community.

Danforth does his research and finds out that Proctor is not religious, does not attend church every week, he also plows (a sin in Salem). Danforth starts to narrow his eyes as he suspects Proctor to play a new game or bring a plot twist - in the court order for his wife - only to save her from the crime she has committed.
