    Japan is very famous for their many earthquakes and tsunamis, including the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.

    Japan is located on the eastern edge of the Eurasian Plate. The Pacific Plate sinks under the Eurasian Plate.

    Since the Eurasian Plate is a continental plate, when the Pacific Plate sinks under the Eurasian Plate it creates a destructive pate margin, causing an underwater earthquake causing a very large tsunami.
