Nationalism as one of the important factors of a trait that a citizen should have can also be harmful especially when it is already an extreme nationalism. Many nations are multiethnic, with more than one distinct culture. Opposing cultural beliefs often can tear a nation apart and lead to civil war. Nationalism can be harmful when it reached the state when you see your race is superior to others and fighting for your country even though you know you stand on the wrong side. Also, it can be harmful if it is used to fuel the citizen to fight and to make war.
