During the 9/11 attacks, President George W. Bush was in a school in Florida. He was at a school named is E. E. Booker Elementary School. The title of the piece that he was reading to the inner-city first graders was "The Pet Goat". He was listening to the children as they recited the story back to him. That morning, around 9: 10, in front of a sign stating "Reading Makes a Country Great", White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card informed him that a second airplane had just hit the World Trade Center. Though he received that information, the President remained seated for several minutes and still read along with the children. At around 9: 30 in the morning, he was scheduled to give a press conference. It was in the school that he gave the presscon about the attacks. It was after that speech that he was taken to a secure location by the Secret Service aboard Air Force One. This happened before he was taken to the White House later that evening.
