2: Napoleon's second mistake: the peninsula war
When Napoleon wanted to controlled Spain and replace the king of Spain with his own blood line, Spain revolted. At the same time, Napoleon wanted to control Portugal. In response, Napoleon marched his troops into the peninsula but suffered heavy causalities due to guerrilla warfare by French adversaries and civilians alike. The losses weakened the French empire and inspired revolts.
3: Napoleon's third mistake: the invasion of Russia
Napoleon rage war on Russia. Basically successful with minor battles and force the Russian army on the run. He got deep into Russian territory and even made it to the capital. However, Czar Alexander I (Russia) in response order a scorched-earth policy and had the land burned and Moscow (Russia's capital) burned to the ground too to prevent Napoleon's army from gaining shelter and to starve the army as the harsh Russian winter approached. Napoleon in response retreated and lost a huge amount of his force during this campaign due to the weather and harassment from adversaries during this retreat.
