The Battle of Okinawa

Explanation:

The Battle of Okinawa started on April, 1495 and lasted for two months. The plan was to invade Okinawa first, and from there, launch the full invasion of the Japanese Island (Okinawa is the southernmost island of the Japanese Archipelago).

However, the Battle was extremely deadly for both sides. The Allies lost over 70,000 lives, and the Japanese lost over 80,000. Kamikazee attacks by the Japanese army were part of the reason of this high number of deaths.

After the battle, the U. S. Army began to consider other ways to win the war because a full scale invasion of Japan would be too difficult, and costly in human lives.
