What is the principal behind the constitution's division of power between federal and state government?

    Dude I am so happy someone asked this. Okay, so pretty much the congress didn't want the president, or even the senate as a whole to hold too much power, so they allowed the states to semi-govern themselves to avoid a power hungry president.
