The new kings perspective on culture was that all new and old cities to be cultural centers of Greece. People had migrated and settled around the Hellenistic kingdoms speaking and reading the same language: koine, or "the common tongue," which was a kind of vernacular Greek. Koine became a unifying cultural force regardless where a person came from, they communicated with anyone else in the cosmopolitan Hellenistic world. The kings had a cosmopolitan view of the world with particular interests in amassing riches that resulted in hard work to cultivate commercial relationships throughout the Hellenistic world. These cities would preserve the Greek History and culture as educational, commercial and religious centers.
