Virginia talks about how much of a genius he was for finding meaning in life throughout self knowledge and simplicity.

Henry Thoreau isolated himself to be surrounded by nature and simple things because he believed that luxury would get in the way of his learning process of if he could actually live instead of teaching how to live.

According to Virginia, he believed that luxury could be in the way of this process for confusing the humans when it comes to what is actually needed to live a plentiful life, because getting rid of unnecessary luxury was a way to set the soul free.

He found meaning in living the way he thought he was meant to live and in self knowledge but also in how he felt endlessly unsatisfied as if he had always something new to learn or discover.
