The British government's decision to impose heavy taxes on the colonies of America during the 1700s led to a huge objection from the thirteen colonies. It also became one of the main reasons / causes of the American revolution against their colonist power, Britain. This slogan was mainly to object to the absence of any parliamentary representative for the colonies despite their taxation. Their demand was to have a representation in the powerhouse as they were taxed and, so they also deserve to have a say in the government.
