This is the definition of Middle Colonies which were funded by many countries such as Netherlands, England, and Sweden among others. For example, New York was name as such by King James II in 1664, but originally funded by the Dutches in 1626 as New Netherlands. The Middle Colonies were important as they provided cheap rough material, especially for England who wanted to have the monopoly of trade in the zone. Religious toleration was also an important issue due to the cultural diversity present in these American colonies.
