Describe the basis of Christian evangelicalism. How could it lead to both social liberalism, as in Jimmy Carter, and cultural conservatism, as in Jerry Falwell?

Carter was a devout Christian but believes in separation of church and state. That said, Carter used his beliefs to promote peace during his administration as well as respect for the rights of others. Jerry Falwell on the other hand had very strong conservative views regarding his faith. He adhered to traditional beliefs and this led him to come into conflict with other religious leaders and liberal personalities. His views leans mostly to conservatives.
