If you're referring to the Gallipoli campaign that was fought in the first world war, I can say that after a very long and brutal battle the turkish troops won and defeated the invading french and british troops. In Turkey this battle is regarded as something that had defined their nation at a time when their empire (the Ottoman empire) was falling apart, because they viewed it as a last moment of glory for their nation.
