    George Wallace surprisingly received support from the South and non-South, having a hundred thousand of letters indicating their support for his candidacy. However, his opposition to the Civil Rights Act had an effect on his candidacy that created tensions. Although he got a lot of votes, the majority voted for President Johnson.
