The Black Death was a plague that affected European culture, its idea of death, and religion. It was also a time where art developed because artists had a universal subject depicted in their works. Moments of suffering and death were turned into an inspiration for most artists and served as a general subject for their work. This was the time when Realism is the center of art culture and artists based their works on the plague as God’s way of punishing His people for their sins.
