Why is judicial independence so important under our system of government?

The democtratic system is based on the separation of powers.

Judicial independence is a pillar of the separation of powers. If the there is not judifical independence, the application of justice may be subject to political influences and, consequently, other powers (Executive and Legislative) may act, with impunity, irresponsibly and without respect to the law and the natural human rights.
