Why did most of the american and british battles take place near waterways

    Whoever controlled the waterways controlled business, trade and power. Americans relied on the waterways to move their goods from one place to another. Imagine for a second that back then roads were not that big they didn't expand far the only other way was by the waterways. Most people lived close to the waterways for that reason.
