What types of hardships and dangers did american soldiers face in world war i?

    Well, the majority of the people who fought in World War 1 were very patriotic. Taking that fact into consideration, there were a lot of young men who joined. Some of them were in there mid teens. Then when they actually fought in the war, seeing your buddy get blown up right besides you wasn't such a pleasant thing. Then they had mustard gas, and machine guns first used. Which made things 10 times more difficult. So basically saying that no one was expecting that much to happen, and therefore, people who fought were scarred for the rest of their lives.
