Federalists believed the federal government as authority. Democratic Republicans wanted power withing the states not the national government. A Democratic-Republican would see the United States as 50 separate states which is right with a limited federal government. Federalists were Washington and Adams. The Democratic-Republicans were Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe.
