There are tapes of secret the conversations in the oval office that are recorded for security purposes and he didn't want to turn them in. When he did turn them in, some of the parts of the tapes were silent or were scrambled so it couldn't be heard what he said. Eventually he resigned and was later pardoned for his actions by the next President.
