Purpose of the alien and sedition acts.

    Explanation:

The Alien and Sedition Acts were acts passed by the Congress in 1798 during John Adam's administration. During this time, there was a great upheaval on the incoming wave of countless immigrants in the U. S. The government in response to this threat passed the Alien Acts of 1798. It put restrictions on the new immigrants who came to the country.

It aimed to deport all illegal immigrants and other foreign citizens. It also aimed to make voting rights of immigrants harder. The right to acquire voting rights for immigrants was further raised to 14 years of residency in the country.

Along with the this act, the Sedition Act passed by the Congress was a very controversial act. The Sedition Act prohibited and arrested anyone who spoke against the government. Huge fine and imprison were imposed on those citizens who declare or expressed discontentment and scandalous remarks on the government.

The Sedition Act received a lot of criticism as it invalidated individual rights and freedom of speech and expression.
