Why is the side opposite the right angle in a right triangle will always be the longest side?

    The hypotenuses, is what I believe you're referring to.

    The other two are at a 90 degree angle to each other. There is no side that is always adjacent, you just say adjacent if the side happens to be right next to an angle you are describing. Same with opposite, it is the one side that doesn't touch the angle you are describing.
