Dear Solana1, we will use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve this problem. First, we identify the length of the ladder as the hypotenuse and the distance the ladder is from the base of the wall as one of the legs. The unknown variable, "how far up the wall" is the other value for the leg. Hence, a^2 + b^2 = c^2 ... This gives us 2 squared + x squared = 6 squared. We do the math and we get 4 + x squared = 36. We solve for x, we get the square root of 32, which is approximately 5.7. Best.
