    X=-17/8

    Step 1: Simplify both sides of the equation.

    -1/2-4x=8

    -1/2+-4x=8

    -4x+-1/2=8

    Step 2: Add 1/2 to both sides.

    -4x+-1/2+1/2=8+1/2

    -4x=17/2

    Step 3: Divide both sides by - 4.

    -4x/-4=17/2/-4

    =-17/8
