The two numbers are 35 and 36.

While you could do this question just by 'guess and check', the best way to do it is to divide 71 by 2, which gives 35.5. So out two numbers should be approximately equal to 35.5. So we just take the two closest: 35, and 36, which are consecutive (consecutive means 'one after the other'), and we see add to 71.
