For - 3+2y=11 would I add - 3 to 11 to find Y, or would I subtract - 3 from 11?

    You have to remember that - 3 requires you to add 3 to reach 0. What you do to one side of the equation you do to the other. You must add 3 to the - 3 to reach zero and you must add three to the 11 as well. Adding a positive number is the same thing as subtracting a negative, so technically you would subtract - 3. But this is the same as just adding 3.
