    5x + 3y = 15

    3y = - 5x + 15

    y = - 5/3x + 5

    that is in the form of y = mx + b

    where m is the slope.

    So - 5/3 is the slope.

    The slope is - 5/3 because if you were to set up the problem to get a solution of y=mx+b, you would have to subtract 5x to 15. since 5x cannot go into 15, step to will look like 3y = - 5x+15. next to get why by itself divide everything on the right side by 3. so - 5/3 and 15/3. you should get y = - 5/3x+5 or y=MX+b. - 5/3 being your slope because m is the slope and is in front of x.
