How to add fractions with different denominators khan academy?

    You have to find the least common denominator between the two fractions. if you had 1/2 + 1/4 then the lcd is 4 so you multiply both the top and the bottom by 4. you get 2/4 + 1/4. Then you add across the top and get 3/4.
