    Steps to solve:

    -3 (x + 4) = 15

    ~Distributive Property

    (-3 * x) + (-3 * 4) = 15

    ~Simplify

    -3x - 12 = 15

    ~Add 12 to both sides

    -3x - 12 + 12 = 15 + 12

    ~Simplify

    -3x = 27

    ~Divide - 3 to both sides

    -3x/-3 = 27/-3

    ~Simplify

    x = - 9
