In the problem shown, why is the denominator 100

and not 200?

Jana and Steve collected money for an animal shelter.

Jana collected 5 / 100 of their goal while Steve collected 4/10.

How much of their goal did Jana and Steve collect?

    the denominator is 100 because Jana collected 5 of 100 and Steve saved 4 of 10 so you will need to make the denominators the same so you multiply 4/10 be 10 to make the denominators the same then you add 40/100 and 5/100 together to find out how much they collected together which is 45/100
