Jamal and Samuel are saving for a camping trip. Jamal starts with $18 and saves $5 each week. Samuel starts with $10 and saves $7 each week. The total cost of the trip is $46 per person. If they must pay for the trip in 5 weeks, will each boy have saved enough to pay for the trip? Explain.

    Jamal:

    have = $18

    need = $46-$18

    = $28

    saves = $5 each week

    = $5 * 5 weeks

    = $25 (not enough)

    Samuel:

    have = $10

    need = $46 - $10

    = $36

    saves = $7 each week

    = $7 * 5 weeks

    = $35 (not enough)

    thus, both boys would not have enough money to pay for the trip.
