Let the shares be 4x and 7x
Now 4x + 7x = 1980
11x = 1980
x = 1980/11
x = 180
So the shares are
4x = 4 (180) = 720
7x = 7 (180) = 1260

Step-by-step explanation:
Rewrite the ratio in equation form:
4:7 = 4x+7x
Now write the equation with 1980 as the answer
4x+7x=1980
Simplify
11x=1980
now divide by 11 on both sides to isolate the variable
11x/11=x
1980/11=180
so x=180
180*4=720
180*7=1260
Check: 1260+720=1980
