Since your subtracting in this problem 4 becomes - 4. The closes number that you can get when trying to find an answer for 52 is - 8. Now do 18-4 * (-8) and get 50. Turn - 8 into - 8.5 and try again. 18-4 * (-8.5) and get 52.
