Jonathan and Samantha row their canoe 39 miles downstream in 3 hours. After a picnic, they row back upstream. After 4 hours they only travel 20 miles. Assuming that they canoe at a constant rate and the river's current is constant, find the speed at which Jonathan and Samantha can row in still water.

    To find avg downstream is 39/3 = 13 mph

    upstream is 20/4 = 5mph

    the average of the 2 is the still water speed which is 8 mph
