What is the value of z in the equation 2 (4z - 5 - 3) = 166 - 46?

    First we solve what we can. 2 (4z - 5 - 3) = 166 - 462 (4z-8) = 120

    8z-16=120

    Then we have to leave z alone.

    8z=120+16

    z = 136/8

    Lastly, we solve.

    z = 17
