    let j be jackets and s be sweatpants

    8j=s

    7j+14s=6160

    Bracket the two together with (

    substitute:

    7 (8j) + 14j=6160

    56j+14j=6160

    70j=6160

    j=6160/70

    j=88

    go back to the first equation

    8 (88) = s

    704=s

    Final answer: 704 sweatpants, 88 jackets
