The measure of 2 angles are (2x+2) 0 and (3x-5) 0.

1.) If the angles are complementary, what is the measure of the smaller angle?

2.) If the angles are supplementary, what would the measure of the smaller angle be?

3.) If the angles are vertical, what would the measure of the smaller angle be?

    Complementary angles are those that add up to 90 degrees. Supplementary angles add up to 180 degrees.

    1.

    (2x + 2) + (3x - 5) = 90

    2x + 3x + 2 - 5 = 90

    5x - 3 = 90

    5x - 3 + 3 = 90 + 3

    5x = 93

    x = 93 / 5 = 18.6

    Now we plug that in to find the angle measures and see which is smaller:

    2x + 2 3x - 5

    = 2 (18.6) + 2 = 3 (18.6) - 5

    = 39.2˚ = 50.8˚

    The smaller angle measures 39.2˚.

    2.

    (2x + 2) + (3x - 5) = 180

    5x - 3 = 180

    x = 183 / 5 = 36.6

    Plugging it in:

    2x + 2 3x - 5

    = 2 (36.6) + 2 = 3 (36.6) - 5

    = 75.2˚ = 104.8˚

    The smaller angle measures 75.2˚.
