    4x = 35

    Divide 4 by both sides.

    4x/4 = 35/4

    x = 8 and 3/4 or 8.75

    To find x just simply divide

    35/4 = 8.75 or 8 3/4

    So x=8 3/4

    4 (8 3/4) = 35
