A rational number is a number that you can be written as a ratio and a irrational number is a real number that cannot be written as a ratio or integer as a fraction.

Rational numbers can be written in form
a/b whre b is not zero
just fyi, repeating decimals are rational example
0.3333333. means 1/3
if there is a repeating part, there is a fraction for it
irrational numbers cannot be written in a/b
they have no repeating parts, and go on infintely
famous exampes are π and e and √2
