+ 4 + 4 Add 4 to both sides
5x=2x+12
-2x - 2x Subtract 2x from both sides
3x=12
/3 / 3 Divide by 3 on both sides
x=4

First you would subtract 2x on both sides
3x-4=8
Then add 4 on both sides

Then divide by 3 on both sides
