A car traveling along a road begins accelerating with a constant acceleration of 1.5 m/s2 in the direction of motion. after traveling 392 m at this acceleration, its speed is 35 m/s. determine the speed of the car when it began accelerating.

    In relating the variables or the parameters that are given in this item, we can make use of the equation,

    2ad = Vf² - Vi²

    where a is the acceleration, d is the distance, Vf and Vi are the final and initial velocities, respectively. If we substitute the known values to the equation,

    2 (1.5 m/s²) (392 m) = (35 m/s) ² - Vi²

    The value of Vi from the equation is 7 m/s.
