Why a rural area might be a safer place to experience an earthquake than a large city?

    Apparently, a large city consists of many infrastructures around. Once earthquake hits this area, there would be a very big chance that these buildings or bridges would collapse and this would result in more fatalities. In a rural area, you can only see a few of these and mostly, only plains or mountains are present.
