A motorcycle and rider have a total mass equal to 300kg. The rider applies the brakes, causing the motorcycle to accelerate at a rate of - 5 m/s. what is the net force on the motorcycle?

    Net force = (mass) x (acceleration)

    = (300 kg) x (-5 m/s²)

    = - 1,500 kg-m/s²

    = 1,500 newtons in the direction

    opposite to the cycle's motion.
