    1.43 m/s

    Explanation:

    From the question, we have;

    Displacement, s = - 5.80 m Acceleration, a = - 1.33 m/s² Time, t is 4.22 s

    We are required to calculate the initial velocity, u of the fly;

    We are going to use the suitable equation of linear motion. In this case, the suitable equation is;

    S = 0.5at² + ut, where S is the displacement. a is the acceleration, u is the initial velocity and t is time

    Putting the values of the variables, we get;

    -5.80 m = (0.5 * (-1.33 m/s²) * (4.22 s) ²) + (u*4.22 s)

    -5.80 m = - 11.8426 + 4.22u

    4.22u = 6.0426

    u = 1.432 m/s

    = 1.43 m/s

    Therefore, the initial velocity of the fly is 1.43 m/s
