A banked circular highway curve is designed for traffic moving at 64 km/h. The radius of the curve is 207 m. Traffic is moving along the highway at 51 km/h on a rainy day. What is the minimum coefficient of friction between tires and road that will allow cars to negotiate the turn without sliding off the road?

    Explanation: In order to explain this problem we have to consider the Newton second law for a circular movement, so:

    f=m*a=m*v^2/r where f is the friction force, v the velocity and r the radius of the circular trajectory.

    f = μ*N = μ*m*g then we have

    μ=v^2 / (r*g) = (51*1000/3600) / (207*9.8) = 0.098
