Mechanical weathering is the physical disintegration of rocks into chunks and bits.
Weathering is the physical and chemical disintegration of rocks to form sediments and soils.
Mechanical weathering is also known as physical weathering. The sole aim of mechanical weathering is to increase the surface area of rocks so that chemical weathering will be more effective.
